Rabbi Knapp has been part of the Yavneh family since September 2001 when he joined our school as the Assistant Principal of Judaic Studies. For the last fifteen years, since 2006, he has served as our Principal/Head of School.
During Rabbi Knapp’s tenure, Yavneh has grown to our current number of over 800, plus an additional 100 children at our newly formed Gan Yavneh. Under his stellar leadership, Yavneh has proudly received Middle States Accreditation (now for a second time) and has significantly enhanced its educational offerings. Some of the more recent examples, spearheaded by Rabbi Knapp, include the Inclusion Program, the focus on Social Emotional Learning through our Foundations Program, Elective Programming that offers a multiplicity of individualized student choices during the school day, the addition of the dean and student programming roles that promote school ruach and co-curricular programming, and the increased emphasis on spoken Hebrew.
Over the years that we have been blessed to have Rabbi Knapp as part of our school family, he has also taught eighth grade Talmud, Hilchot Shabbat, Modern Zionism and various Advisory classes. He has also shared many of his other interests through his Harry Potter Torah Club, Jewish Sports Stars elective, Torah through Nature, and a weekly halacha chaburah.
Throughout his tenure, Rabbi Knapp has stewarded our school with great professionalism, wisdom, passion, warmth and vision. He is deeply invested in every aspect of the school with a keen eye on how to improve the student experience. His favorite part of every day remains waiting by carpool and greeting students each morning with a warm smile as they enter our school.
Rabbi Knapp lives in Bergenfield with his wife Leah and their four children Adina, Esti, Shira and Eli.
