Our Volunteer Service Awardee, Tzippy Cohnen, is well known in the hallways of Yavneh and well beyond, having served Yavneh, always with eagerness and zeal, in many ways and across many years.
Her service to the YPAA, for eight years as a board member and for two years as its President, is admirable but is perhaps only the beginning of the story. Tzippy co-chaired the Yavneh Apparel Committee and spearheaded an initiative which has made Yavneh apparel the mainstay of many of our wardrobes. Her service on the dress code committee leveraged her acumen in fashion much as her acumen in all things artistic is leveraged when she volunteers to help Yavneh’s youngest students with projects of all shapes and sizes, from Rosh Hashanah honey dishes to Sukkah decorations to Purim Groggers and more. Early Childhood has always been Tzippy’s forte; she remains active there, distributing Chanukah gifts to our beloved teachers, one of many illustrations of her love for and dedication to Yavneh Academy.
When the need arose, and a substitute teacher was needed in the Early Childhood Department, the answer was obvious. Tzippy was to become Morah Tzippy and that she did, lending her talents and her love to the little boys and girls. Each week, Tzippy’s friends were regaled with accounts of art projects and Parshah stories, as it became clear that Tzippy addressed her new role with enthusiasm and delight.
Tzippy also shares her talents with a variety of other worthy organizations which include Chai Lifeline, One Israel Fund and Emunah. She and her husband Avromie are the proud parents of Olivia (Yavneh ’14, Frisch ‘18), Noah (Yavneh ’17) and Aidan (Yavneh ’20).
